Lacuna Coil- Enjoy The Silence

When you do a cover of an iconic, well-known song, it can go either terribly wrong or something magical can happen.
The gothic metal band Lacuna Coil from Milan, Italy and their version of Depeche Mode’s Enjoy the Silence from the 2006 album Karmacode is the perfect example of when a cover is done right.

Its darkness, heavier metal sound, plus the contrasting female and male vocals- the whole song blends together into something amazing, and the eeriness and power you get when listening to this version is for me incomparable to the original.
The song starts slow and calm, and then BAM..let the headbanging commence
And can we just take a moment to appreciate the stunning outro…
In my opinion when doing a cover, way too many bands/artists try to imitate the original down to every little musical detail, but not Lacuna Coil - they have stayed true to their style and renewed this 1990 classic. They really made this cover their own and added a different dimension to it.

Whether this version is worse or better than the original is up to everyone’s personal taste, but its uniqueness is undeniable. Definitely worth a listen!
